   Despite completing this technological pioneering work, Richard Mille continues to challenge the limits of top-end timepieces, creating the 2013 sapphire crystal RM 56-01 sapphire watch. Richard Mille worked with top jewellery factory Boucheron to develop the RM 018 watch with full sapphire crystal double plate, and later produced the RM 056 with full sapphire crystal case, which combined the development of these two watches. The research on the material of sapphire crystal (Al2O3), combined with the exquisite hollowing craftsmanship of the watchmaker, has finally achieved this peerless work with a transparent movement, RM 56-01.

   Richard Mille uses a transparent sapphire crystal plate to support the entire manually wound tourbillon movement, which brings a bright and moving appearance to the RM56-01. The movement has hours and minutes display at 11 and 2 o’clock There are power reserve display and torque indicator at the position, and a function selector at 4 o’clock. This pursuit of extreme transparency in titanium movements has also inspired watch factory engineers’ determination to build the central bridge plate and the third round with sapphire crystal. The RM56-01 movement, which is made of sapphire crystal and titanium, can withstand severe temperature changes and resist friction.    The three-part case is inspired by RM 056. Each part, such as the bezel, main dial and caseback, is chiseled from a single piece of sapphire crystal.
